Block: Modern Dresden

Mayville has a Sunflower Festival each summer so when it came time to choose a quilt block
it was a natural choice to want a sunflower pattern.  The problem was that pattern was already
being used.  Not willing to be discouraged they got busy searching online for another perfect
choice.  What they found was the beautiful Modern Dresden block created by a quilt artist in
Pennsylvania.  Nicole Sedor-Maroon is an award winning quilt artist and she graciously and
enthusiastically gave her permission to use her design.  After changing the colors the result
was a modern art version of a sunflower.

This block can be found on the Mayville Museum at 2124 Ohmer Rd.
(M-24), Mayville, MI 48744. Painting and mounting the block takes many people!

The Mayville Museum was the location of the Thumb Quilt Trail Opening Ceremony. It was held on a beautiful October morning
in 2014 with about 125 people in attendance including members of the Michigan Barn Preservation Network, as well
as our then State Representative Terry Brown. Mayville Museum graciously hosted the event.  After a short
presentation and a ribbon cutting the members of the MBPN headed out for a driving tour of the
beautiful barns in our area.

While you are at the museum check out the relocated 1800’s school house and an authentic log cabin
and many more historical items. For more information about the Mayville Musuem go to their Facebook page.
