Brinkman Barn / Birds in the Air Block

BRINKMAN BARN
4796 E. Cass City Rd. (M-81)
Cass City, MI 48726
Block: Birds in the Air

Located on the south side of state highway M-81, between Caro and  Cass City, sits a classic
red barn that has endured the test of time. Here is a barn originally built by the Wildman
family in 1898 and later sold to the Brown family. A fire in 1932 caused great damage and before
the ashes settled, Bruce Brown had contracted a group of Canadian barn builders to rebuild the
damaged barn. As stated by Bruce, "The Canadians are the only people that know how to build

a barn"!

The barn passed hands from the Brown's to the Loomis family and, finally in 1992,  to the
Tom Brinkman family who added the octagon silo top in 2001.

The quilt design "Birds in the Air" was chosen as a representation of the many birds that utilize
the Brinkman farm pond, name "Lake Havafew".
