Ruggles Farm / Steer Pride

RUGGLES FARM
5721 Sanilac Rd. (M-46)
Kingston, MI 48741
Block: Steer Pride

As you approach the village of Kingston from the west, the barn is on the north side of the road.
This barn had been burned by an arsonist before it was purchased by the Ruggles family in 1937.
The present barn was built with locally sawed lumber on the original foundation by a Kingston native,
Ed Froede and Son in 1942.
Upon breaking away from the family dairy farm in 1963, the Ruggles started raising a few beef cattle.
When their son Tim started 4-H at the age of 8 he took his money from the sale of his 4-H steer and
bought his first heifer. When he graduated from high school, he had 18 beef cows and paid his way through
Michigan State University! From this, the Ruggles have become a 1600 head feedlot with about 50 Angus
mother cows.
The show steer on the quilt block represents 42 years of showing cattle and selling club calves by the
Ruggles children and grandchildren.

Justin Ruggles' steer, Donald Trump, took first place in the state as Grand Champion Steer.
